The Test

The test is FREE, simple and painless. You don’t even have to be examined.

10 important points!

1. Simple, free tests available for under 25 year olds.

2. Tests are completely CONFIDENTIAL which means we won’t tell anyone you’ve been tested, not even your GP, without your consent (unless there is serious risk to you or to someone else’s health and safety).

3. For MALES a simple urine sample is required (please do not pass urine for 2 hours before the test).

4. FOR FEMALES a self taken swab from the lower vagina is required.

5. If the test is taken 2-3 weeks after unprotected sex it is more likely that a more accurate result will be obtained.

6. If a person has an untreated Chlamydia infection there is a risk they will pass it on to someone else (that includes you if you were to have unprotected sex with him/her).

7. Left untreated some people who have the infection may develop complications.

8. TREATMENT is antibiotics, which means usually taking one dose of 4 tablets or you may need a week’s course.

9. SYMPTOMS may be present.

FOR WOMEN:

  • A vaginal discharge that is different to usual discharge
  • The need to pass urine more often
  • Low abdominal pain (tummy ache)
  • Bleeding between periods or bleeding after sex

FOR MEN:

  • A discharge from the tip of the penis
  • Pain and /or burning when passing urine
  • Painful swelling of the testicles

The test will only tell you if you have chlamydia, it won’t tell you about other infections.

You will  be asked to fill in a screening form and you can ask for help with this if you want.  We need to have a way of contacting you with the result. This can be your mobile number or address.

Results

Getting your test results

You can choose to get your results by text message, phone call or letter.

You will receive your results by us within two weeks.

If you haven’t heard from us in two weeks give us a call on 0844 252 416

If my result is negative

You will receive your result by your chosen method. 

Result by text message will say: Good news! Your recent test was negative from CSO’

If my result is positive?

We will try and contact you to talk about this in confidence.  if we can’t contact you in person we may send you a text or letter asking you to contact us ( if you have given us permission on the screening form).
