Treatment
The good news is that chlamydia is easy to treat.
Chlamydia is treated with antibiotics and usually requires only a single dose of 4 tablets.
If you are pregnant or not able to take these tablets, you may be given a longer course of slightly different antibiotics.
Remember though, that whilst chlamydia is easily treated, it should be treated as early as possible to prevent future complications .
Remember not to have sex (oral, vaginal or anal) for 7 days after treatment so that the antibiotic has enough time to work.
Remember that antibiotics can stop the contraceptive pill or patch from working effectively and so ask for advice at time of treatment.
Remember to use a condom and ask your partner to get treated and tested to prevent getting another chlamydia infection. If you have a regular partner you will need to wait for 7 days after they have also had treatment.
We will talk to you about the people you have recently had sex with. See the section on ‘DO I TELL MY PARTNER’ .
We’ll help arrange for you and your partner to have FREE treatment at a convenient location.
Rarely the test result can be wrong. We can discuss this with you when you get your result.
